Wood Bathroom Vanities
Wood bathroom vanities are the most common type of vanity. There are three types of wood bathroom vanities sold, each of which have their pros and cons. The first type include particle board wood bathroom vanities. These vanities are crafted of compressed sawdust bonded with glue to form a cheap material used for furniture. This is the cheapest of the type of vanities available, which is considered a benefit by many. However, this type of wood does not last nearly as long in a bathroom, where heat and moisture tend to affect the paint and the underlying particle board.
The next type of wood bathroom vanities include those made of softwoods. Softwoods, such as pine, are fast growing trees that are used for many lumber projects. These woods, like the name implies, tend to be softer than hardwood trees. They withstand abuse better than particle board, but often get scuffed and will be dented by objects fairly easily. This wood is more expensive than particle board, and will last a lot longer as well.
The final type of wood bathroom vanities include those crafted of hardwoods. These are, by far, the most expensive and desired type of vanity. Hardwood trees are among the slowest growing trees, with a more limited supply. This makes them extremely expensive. However, as the wood tends to be a lot stronger than both pine and particle board, it is highly desired. It is resistant to impact damage, water damage and steam damage, and will maintain its luster through years of use.
Of the types of wood bathroom vanities available, only softwood and hardwood vanities tend to be paired with heavy veneers such as marble or steel. Particle board often will not withstand the weight of stone, and uses plastic or other synthetic veneers. Unlike softwood and hardwood, particle board is more likely to be painted, as the natural appearance of this wood is unimpressive. Both softwood and hardwood tend to be stained, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to show through.
In some cases, particle board bathroom vanities may use a thin veneer of real wood to mask that it is particle board. These types are slightly more expensive than standard particle board, as they have a much more desirable appearance than painted particle board has.
All three types of wood bathroom vanities are available online for purchase or can be found at your local furniture stores.
